Getting started

Your first hours: making a hero, quests, fighting and growing stronger.

Your first hours

Pick one of the five classes, give your hero a name and you start in Sunderkeep, the castle every road begins and ends at. Every character is its own game: its own level, gold, bags, quests and collections.

  • People with a yellow ! over their heads have a quest for you; a ? means one is ready to hand in.
  • The Journal (J) keeps your quests, the Adventure Guide, the Codex and your achievements.
  • Play offline straight away, or sign in to keep your characters on every device and to play online with others.

Fighting

  • Your abilities are on the bar at the bottom. Each costs your class's resource and has a cooldown; the basic attack is free.
  • Tab picks the next enemy near you. Out in the zones, creatures stand in camps and patrols; the ones with a star are rare elites with better loot.
  • Dungeons and raids are run with four companions: AI companions on your own, or a party of other players online.
  • Trials are solo fights in an arena, each with three challenges for bonus experience.

Growing stronger

  • Levels go up to 20. Each class has three talent trees; spend your points in the Spellbook (K). See Classes and talents.
  • Creatures drop gear into your bags (B). Wear it from the Character window (I). See Gear, runes and repairs.
  • Every class has a crafting profession; everyone can cook, fish and gather.

Getting around

  • The Travel button opens the travel drawer: the zones, the Trials, dungeons and raids, and the Arena.
  • The Map (M) shows the zone you're in, its quests and the people who matter.
  • The Homestone takes you back to the village inn you call home. See Travel and the Homestone.

Playing together

  • Signed in, the zones are shared: you see the other players there and can talk, trade, form a party and duel.
  • Press Enter to chat; type /help for the commands. See Playing online.
