The Arcanum

The mages of the Arcane Spire: a college, a library and a fire hazard, in that order.

The Arcanum began as a reading group and became a college when the reading group set fire to the old library and had to build a new one. The Arcane Spire is that library, with a tower round it so nobody can tell. Its books float. Its students float, when Fizzwick Boomsworth gets his formulas wrong. Lamb Chopra used to be a student. Lamb Chopra is now a sheep, and has never been happier.

Merlin Monroe is its Archmagister and has read every book in the Spire twice and corrected one. Bursar Hermione Ledger keeps its accounts and its stores, and can tell you to the copper what you owe the library in late fees. You owe the library. Everyone owes the library.

Only mages may join. The others are welcome to visit, provided they do not touch anything, breathe on the books or ask what the orrery is for.
