The Wildroot Circle

The druids of the old Keep Gardens, who let them grow wild and then took notes.

The Keep Gardens were very tidy once. Then the druids came, sat down in them, and did nothing for a hundred years, very deliberately. The hedges grew into a wood, the fountain into a moonwell, and the old oak into the Hollow Oak, which you can now walk into and which has opinions. The Wildroot Circle is what the druids call themselves when the gardener asks who is responsible.

David Oakenborough keeps the Circle, mostly by narrating it. Steve Irwood keeps its stores in the grove: seeds, cuttings, bark tea and a crate of things that bite, which he will tell you are perfectly harmless right up until they are not. Crikey, he says. He says it a lot.

The Circle is for druids: the ones who can be a bear on Monday and a tree by Thursday. Everyone else is welcome to look, quietly, from behind the hedge. The ducks are watching you too.
